I totally agree that the root of our mess in society is complacency.
I am just finishing up 1984 ironically enough...and it is evident that it was once a complacent and a non-informed society that lead to to their state of totalitarianism-
A society either needs to be too trusting, scared, or too busy watching American Idol (which I love to watch by the way :)) for an over empowering government to take over and sweep up the rights of people.
If a nation is alert with citizens constantly at watch, defending constitutional rights (not cultural traditions of rights) but constitutional rights and their God given agency -the nation would never fall to totalitarianism-
so in the cartoon- both sides of the debate are true- one type of society leads to the other.
